Limewire, the software oft remembered for its mp3 music piracy, has announced their entrance into web3, re-launching as a hub for buying and selling music NFTs. 

Limewire was a peer-to-peer file sharing software launched in 2000. In 2010, Limewire was shut down due to copyright infringement. This was the result of a lawsuit filed by a number of record companies. The original Limewire company also faced complaints involving identity theft due to the common occurrence of malware in the files sent. 

According to Bloomberg, two Austrian entrepreneurs have long been looking to acquire the company. The team will be entirely different, and the new CEOs, also brothers, are making the play based on their affection for the name, and nostalgia for the brand. The brothers, Julian Zehetmayr and Paul Zehetmayr  “It’s a very iconic name. Even if you look on twitter today, there’s hundreds of people still being nostalgic about the name.” CEO Julian Zehetmayr shared with Bloomberg. 

It’s been 12 years since the music piracy days were thriving, and the Zehetmayr brothers have a vision. Reportedly, they also have “many mainstream artists” on board. The NFTs will be available to purchase through both fiat and crypto. While the music on Limewire won’t be free this time, at least it won’t be illegal.  If you are interested in joining, you may join the waitlist for the new Limewire, coming May 2022.

Twitter user @KondoudisLaw broke the news that Billie Eilish has filed some interesting patents pertaining to the metaverse. Mike Kondoudis is a trademark attorney and shed light on a few standouts in the filing. Eilish appears to have filed for the following areas pertaining to the metaverse: NFTs, virtual currency, and digital collectibles. The application also notes downloadable video game software, virtual goods, in-game resources, and currencies pertaining to video games or virtual worlds. 

While it’s speculated this could mean she’s next in line to be another celeb entering the space, others believe this may be an opportunity to protect her likeness and name from being utilized, without consent, throughout the metaverse. The applications, filed on February 26th, included filings for both her name and the Blohsh logo. 

Billie Eilish was born in 2001 and rose to stardom by fearlessly posting her deeply personal music videos to YouTube. Her emblem, the Blohsh logo, is widely recognized by her many fans as a symbol of gender neutrality, strength and freedom. Eilish is currently scheduled to tour this year, has one of the largest Instagram followings-100M, and may be found on the spring/summer cover of V Magazine. As one of the biggest pop icons of her generation, the possibility of her joining the metaverse is incredible, and with a following as robust as hers, it will certainly be a grand entrance.

SEVENFRIDAY, Swiss watch company, will be entering web3, selling their watches with NFTs for certification and security. These watches, and sunglasses are sleek, luxurious and durable. As a luxury items brand, SEVENFRIDAY is no stranger to counterfeits, and I spoke with founder Dan Neiderer about the company’s community goals, and the path they see ahead.

“Live everyday like it’s Friday” shares Neiderer on the ethos of the company. SEVENFRIDAY is a brand, as well as lifestyle, focused on community and connection. This vision was partially realized when they integrated a platform of their own, to certify their watches and connect users, however, the permanence of the blockchain was the missing piece.

It occurred to Neiderer- using the polygon network to additionally certify their product would create greater security as well as community benefits. In Feb. 2022, SEVENFRIDAY announced the NFT based digital certificates for their product. The aim – to utilize innovation and maintain unbreakable connection.

SEVENFRIDAY is collaborating with digital artist Kata to allow their community the opportunity to collect an actual piece of digital art along with their watch. For around $25 a piece, owners of one of these luxury watches will be given access to this collaboration. Her works are limited tiger editions and feature super clean and colorful pfp art. Also, announced in their 2022 plans, participants in the community will be empowered to shape the destiny of the company, both materialistically and emotionally.

With a robust roadmap for this coming year, a few things to look out for will be the coming new website, nft release, updated SEVENFRIDAY app, exclusive launches, and 7F marketplace. The World’s First Decentralized NFT Museum Integrates Chainlink VRF
Today, Musee Dezentral announced that it has integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) to bring a tamper-proof source of randomness to its smart contract. With VRF, users can now mint provably random NFT frames beginning today on February 15th.

Musee Dezentral is the world’s first decentralized NFT museum. It will house 222 NFT frames that are both unique, provably random collectibles and also a space where frame owners can hang NFT art from their collection in Musee Dezentral’s massive 3 floor metaverse museum. The team had several challenges due to the complexity of connecting a project like Musee Dezentral to the Ethereum blockchain, and as a result had to build a custom smart contract. When faced with the need to implement true randomness, the team integrated VRF.

“When building innovative Web3 projects, there is no guidebook,” said Frank Hahn, the CEO  of Musee Dezentral. “The process calls for creative infrastructural solutions such as Chainlink to help bring added security and functionality to your smart contracts. That’s why we integrated Chainlink VRF for a tamper-proof source of randomness to mint verifiably random NFT frames.”

Fabian Burghardt, the Product and Design Lead at Musee Dezentral added, “We plan to continuously build Musee Dezentral to be a massive decentralized cultural metaverse. We want this to be accessible to everyone all over the world, whether you have a VR headset or a basic smartphone. A place where people can immerse themselves in art. What direction it heads in and where it goes next, will be directed by our community.”

Musee Dezentral’s CTO, Tom Wendland stated that “NFTs have the power to transform how we conceptualize art and ownership. We at Musee Dezentral believe that NFTs can empower artists, musicians, and creators. The future of art is decentralized.”

If frame selection was done without Chainlink VRF, it’s possible that a tech-savvy person or bot could cheat the process to increase the odds of receiving a rare frame, which would be unfair to the Musee Dezentral community. 

Although each of the 222 NFT frames is unique, some frames have rare qualities. In order to help ensure the minting process is fair, the Musee Dezentral team uses Chainlink VRF to generate a provably random number that corresponds to 1 of the 222 frames.

Nine new galleries will join Art Basel’s OVR:2021 platform for the first time: Fridman  Gallery from New York, imura art gallery from Kyoto, Inman Gallery from Houston,  Klemm’s from Berlin, Leila Heller Gallery with spaces in Dubai and New York, Nature  Morte from New Delhi, Galería RGR from Mexico City, Rele Gallery with spaces in Lagos  and Los Angeles, and This is No Fantasy Dianne Tanzer + Nicola Stein from Melbourne. 

“2021 was a disrupted and disruptive year and many of the works in ‘OVR:2021’ bear  witness to that,” Marc Spiegler, Global Director, Art Basel commented: “We see that in  the topics recurring across the rooms, in the ever-widening range of perspectives from

vintage found objects, while Venus Over Manhattan will present works by Connor Annor,  whose portraits and figurative works picture moments of community and intimacy set in  domestic spaces. Carlos/Ishikawa will showcase a new body of work from Antonio  Tarsis’ ongoing series of compositions made from discarded matchboxes found on the  streets of the artist’s native Brazil, and Scene of Humanity will present a group show of  works by Marina Cruz, Rao Fu, and Yang Lee, whose paintings of everyday scenes and  objects allow viewers to resonate with preserved objects and family memory. 

Other highlights include bipartite photocollages by Scott Treleaven, whose artistic origins  are in small-gauge filmmaking and self-published zines that made an enduring  contribution to independent, queer, and underground culture, presented by Cooper Cole;  Prometeogallery’s presentation of never-before-seen works by Zehra Doğan, in which  the artist uses shades obtained with fluids such as coffee and turmeric to draw female  figures with naked bodies -but armed with guns and Kalashnikov-, who fight and rebel  against invisible coercive forces, thanks also to the influence of semi-divine creatures in  the form of snake-women or bird-women. The project had impossible expectations when Taylor Gerring (co founder of Ethereum) announced that he’d use the serum live on stream with TropoFarmer.  Somehow the stream exceeded expectations.  Over 10,000 tuned in on twitch and spaces for the reveal and somehow the resulting Mega Mutant didn’t disappoint. DMT Mega Mutand #30004 is now forever part of the NFT lexicon, and those that were lucky enough to attend also received an awesome POAP.

The excitement just couldn’t stop there. Within 12 hours the next Mega Mutant Serum was sold for 999 $ETH. With only 3 Mega Mutant Serums left, it will be interesting to see what influencers, brands, or princes, buy the serum and more importantly when will they use it?  In the current NFT cycle, these mutant serums represent a massive grab for attention making the possibilities endless.
