The Dawn of a New Era in NFTs: Exploring the Rise of Alternative Layer 1s

As we venture into 2024, the NFT landscape is undergoing a seismic shift, with alternative Layer 1 blockchains like Solana (SOL), Tezos, and SEI emerging as significant players. This shift marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of the NFT ecosystem, diversifying the platforms on which digital art and collectibles thrive.

1. Diversification Beyond Ethereum: A Breath of Fresh Air for NFTs

Historically, Ethereum has been the dominant force in the NFT space. However, alternative Layer 1s like SOL, Tezos, and SEI offer fresh opportunities. Their unique features, such as lower transaction fees and faster processing times, make them attractive to artists and collectors seeking new avenues for NFT creation and trade.

2. Niche Communities and Innovative Use-Cases

These alternative blockchains are carving out niche communities and fostering innovative use-cases. For instance, Tezos has become a hub for eco-conscious artists due to its energy-efficient design, while SEI’s high throughput is appealing for high-frequency trading NFTs.

3. Enhanced Scalability and Performance

Scalability remains a key concern in the NFT space. Alternative Layer 1s address this issue head-on, offering superior scalability and performance compared to older blockchains. This feature is crucial as the NFT market expands and requires more efficient infrastructure.

4. Tailored Solutions for Diverse Needs

Each of these alternative Layer 1s brings tailored solutions to the table. Solana, known for its lightning-fast speeds, is ideal for projects that require quick transactions. Tezos, on the other hand, appeals to those prioritizing eco-friendliness.

5. Growing Ecosystems and Partnerships

The expanding ecosystems and partnerships surrounding these blockchains are a testament to their growing influence. Collaborations with artists, brands, and tech companies are broadening the scope and appeal of NFTs on these platforms.

BTC’s Entry into NFTs: Ordinals and Inscriptions

2024 also witnesses a groundbreaking development in the NFT space with Bitcoin (BTC) introducing ordinals and inscriptions. This new concept involves directly inscribing digital assets onto individual satoshis, the smallest unit of Bitcoin, adding a fresh dimension to the NFT market.

The Significance of Bitcoin’s Ordinals

Bitcoin’s foray into the NFT world is notable for several reasons. Firstly, it leverages the robust security and widespread recognition of the Bitcoin network. Secondly, ordinals introduce a unique way of tokenizing assets, differing from traditional NFT standards. This innovation could attract a new wave of collectors and creators, eager to explore the possibilities within the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Implications for the NFT Landscape

The introduction of Bitcoin ordinals and inscriptions is poised to enrich the NFT landscape. It not only expands the range of blockchain options for NFTs but also brings the credibility and stability of Bitcoin to the forefront of digital art and collectibles.

The Unstoppable Rise of Layer 2s: Ethereum’s Counter

While alternative Layer 1s and Bitcoin’s new venture are making waves, Ethereum’s Layer 2 solutions, particularly Arbitrum, are not to be overlooked, especially in the gaming sector. Arbitrum is poised to extend its lead in 2024, offering a blend of Ethereum’s security with enhanced scalability and lower fees, making it ideal for NFT-based games.

Conclusion: A Balanced NFT Future

2024 promises to be a landmark year for NFTs, with both alternative Layer 1s, Bitcoin’s innovative ordinals, and Ethereum’s Layer 2 solutions like Arbitrum playing critical roles. This balanced growth ensures a vibrant, diverse, and technologically advanced NFT ecosystem.

TLDR: 2024 marks the rise of alternative Layer 1 blockchains like Solana, Tezos, and SEI in the NFT space, alongside Bitcoin’s introduction of ordinals and inscriptions, offering diversification, niche communities, scalability, and tailored solutions. Ethereum’s Layer 2 solutions, especially Arbitrum, continue to be pivotal, particularly in NFT gaming. The year promises a balanced and thriving NFT ecosystem.

The Genesis: A Canvas for Innovation

At its inception, Nifty Gateway offered something extraordinarily different— a platform where artists, who were curious about the blockchain, could interact with it effortlessly. The blockchain was still relatively novel and the cryptomarkets hadn’t reached their all-time highs. The freedom to experiment and create was immense. High-quality artists flocked to the platform, contributing stunning yet affordable pieces that collectors could acquire without burning a hole in their pockets.

During this initial phase, Nifty Gateway was an exciting art bazaar that combined the promise of emerging tech with the ingenuity of the creative mind. The platform encouraged groundbreaking work and brought artists and collectors closer than ever before.

The Nifty Summer: The Craze and the Haze

Enter the phase that many in the community now nostalgically refer to as the “Nifty Summer.” Top artists like Beeple, xcopy, Trevor Jones and more saw their work experience parabolic growth, and NFTs like Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and the ever-iconic Crypto Punks surged in popularity. The market went wild, and tools started emerging that made the creation of NFTs easier than ever.

The Nifty Summer wasn’t just a season; it was a phenomenon. It marked a tipping point where NFTs went from being a niche fascination to a cultural mainstay. However, this explosive growth came with its challenges.

The NFT Winter: The Thawing of the Hype

As quickly as the NFT summer had escalated, the ensuing NFT winter brought a sobering chill. During this period, some celebrities and public figures began to take advantage of the hype, sometimes at the expense of the art and the collectors. Comedian TJ Miller, for instance, came under fire for allegedly capitalizing on the NFT craze. Critics argue that such entries into the NFT space, devoid of any real artistic value, have the potential to dilute the ecosystem and exploit collectors who are here for the love of art and innovation. The platform became flooded with numerous NFT projects that seemed to focus more on extracting Ethereum value rather than contributing to the art world. Trust wavered and provenance—the historical record and ownership details of an art piece—became murky.

Moreover, the lack of curation became evident. Virtually anyone could mint anything, making it difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. Meanwhile, artists with no provenance history started charging exorbitant fees for their artwork. To make matters worse, the rising gas fees made it almost impossible for new entrants to participate in the NFT world, further cooling off the market.

The Great Reset: Nifty Gateway’s Comeback

Recognizing these challenges, Nifty Gateway went back to the drawing board and emerged with a refined focus on quality. It has become a haven for top-tier art and artists, serving as a benchmark for what an NFT platform should aspire to be.

In parallel, other platforms like Tezos have started to gain prominence for offering a space for exploration and affordable art. Tezos addresses many of the concerns that arose during the NFT winter, particularly those related to high gas fees and accessibility.

TL;DR

Nifty Gateway started as a platform that encouraged artistic innovation in the NFT space. Despite the highs of the Nifty Summer and the lows of the NFT Winter, the platform has realigned its focus towards quality art and artists, setting an example for the industry. As platforms like Tezos rise, offering solutions to past problems, Nifty Gateway remains a leader in curated, top-tier NFT art.

In a recent Twitter thread, fxhash (@fx_hash_) unveiled their exciting plans for fxhash 2.0, a platform expansion that aims to integrate Ethereum and on-chain minting. This major development opens up new possibilities for artists and collectors, offering the freedom to choose between Tezos and Ethereum chains. Let’s delve into the details of fxhash 2.0 and explore the potential it holds for the generative art community.

The Home of Generative Art

With the arrival of fxhash 2.0, artists will enjoy the power to decide which chain, Tezos or Ethereum, best suits their needs at any given moment. The platform aims to empower users with the flexibility to mint and showcase their generative art on the chain of their choice, fostering a diverse and vibrant artistic ecosystem.

An important aspect of fxhash’s philosophy is an open and inclusive platform. Upon the launch of fxhash 2.0, minting and collecting on both Tezos and Ethereum, including on-chain capabilities, will be readily accessible to all users without any limitations or barriers. This commitment to openness ensures that artists can fully embrace the potential of multichain art creation.

Two Chains, United

fxhash 2.0 presents a redesigned platform that prioritizes a seamless experience across different chains. Artists will encounter a familiar minting flow but with additional options, such as choosing the desired chain for minting and code-storage preferences. By harmonizing the user experience, fxhash aims to create an environment where artists can focus on their creativity without worrying about the technicalities.

All the Tools You Need

Building upon the groundbreaking features of its Tezos integration, fxhash 2.0 ensures compatibility with Ethereum, providing a consistent experience across both chains. Artists will benefit from features like fx(params) and redeemables, as well as integration tools for technology partners and events. This integration of tools across multiple chains enhances the overall fxhash experience.

Elevating Generative Art

fxhash celebrates the art itself, regardless of the chain it originates from. Artworks minted on fxhash will be displayed side by side, encouraging an appreciation for the unique creations artists produce when given complete artistic freedom. By focusing on the art rather than the underlying blockchain, fxhash aims to create a cohesive community centered around creativity and expression.

With fxhash 2.0, artists can seamlessly mint their creations on Tezos, Ethereum, and back again, all within the fxhash platform. This provides artists with exposure to different audiences while utilizing the same set of tools. The ability to explore multiple chains will undoubtedly unlock new possibilities and expand the reach of artists’ work.

Layer One Ethereum

fxhash has chosen to integrate with Layer One (L1) Ethereum, leveraging its robust and rich tooling ecosystem. By utilizing L1 Ethereum, fxhash ensures a reliable deployment environment and takes advantage of the features that have made Ethereum a favorite among artists and collectors.

The integration of Ethereum into fxhash is a direct response to the community’s requests for expanded tooling access across various blockchains. fxhash values the feedback from its users and strives to make important decisions based on their input. Acting as a bridge and unifying force between chains, fxhash aims to foster a cohesive and supportive community for generative artists.

What’s Next

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have taken the digital art world by storm, but they are now struggling to maintain their position as the hype cycle shifts and gas fees rise on the Ethereum network. In this blog post, we will explore the reasons behind these challenges, who is most impacted, and potential solutions for artists and collectors alike.

Shifting Crypto Trends

The crypto markets are known for following trends, and this year has been no exception. We’ve seen the emergence of farming NFTs on BLUR, the shift to Open Edition and burn mechanics on manifold, and a renewed focus on altcoins. The ease of creating ERC-20 contracts has shifted the narrative back to high-risk gambling for the crypto community. Consequently, the attention that was once focused on NFTs has waned, and artists are left grappling with these changing market dynamics.

High Gas Fees and Its Impact

The influx of funds chasing altcoins and meme coins has made the Ethereum network incredibly expensive for NFT participants. Profile Picture (PFP) projects, Web3 Games, and especially 1/1 artists are hurt the most. The constant appearance of memecoins and the competition among power users to get in quickly have led to skyrocketing gas fees that impact the entire network.

Artists are greatly impacted by high gas fees

One option for artists to circumvent high gas fees and the uncertainty surrounding NFTs is to work directly with collectors and facilitate private sales of art. If the art is already minted, fees can be lower in this scenario, as long as there is trust between the artist and the collector. However, adding a middleman or escrow service negates much of the potential savings due to the additional transaction involved.

High gas fees on the Ethereum network have significantly impacted both artists and collectors. For artists, the cost of minting new NFTs has become prohibitively expensive. Settling auctions and transferring ownership of NFTs can also incur high fees, discouraging collectors from participating in auctions or purchasing artwork directly. This, in turn, can lead to reduced demand and lower prices for NFT art.

Fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) can further exacerbate the challenges faced by artists and collectors. As the hype around NFTs subsides and crypto trends shift, speculators may lose interest, causing the market for NFTs to contract. A decline in demand can lead to lower prices, making it even harder for artists to recoup their initial investment in minting and marketing their artwork.

Working directly with collectors can help artists bypass some of these challenges by establishing personal connections and building a loyal customer base. Artists can also use this approach to gain valuable feedback from collectors, helping them to refine their work and better understand market preferences.

Furthermore, by engaging directly with collectors, artists can educate them about the value of their work beyond mere speculation and hype. This can help to build a more sustainable market for NFT art, as collectors come to appreciate the artistic merit and intrinsic value of the pieces they acquire.

To mitigate the impact of high gas fees and the challenges posed by FUD and speculation, artists can explore various strategies such as offering discounts for bulk purchases, providing exclusive access to future work, or bundling digital and physical goods as part of the sale. By offering added value and fostering a sense of community among their collectors, artists can better navigate the uncertainties and fluctuations in the NFT market.

Exploring Alternative Blockchains

The struggles of NFTs on the Ethereum network create an opportunity for alternative blockchains to gain traction. If enough talented artists begin using other blockchains, it can provide a stronger footing for those networks. Tezos, Polygon, and other emerging blockchains are all vying for a piece of the NFT market.

Tezos has become a reliable alternative blockchain for art, and this could be their moment to shine and come out ahead in the race for NFT dominance. Meanwhile, Polygon, an Ethereum-compatible scaling solution, offers a fast and low-cost alternative for minting and trading NFTs. The Polygon network has already attracted a number of artists and NFT platforms due to its compatibility with Ethereum and significantly reduced gas fees.

Other blockchains, such as Solana are also making strides in the NFT space, offering artists various options when it comes to minting and trading their digital art. As artists explore these alternatives, it’s crucial to weigh the pros and cons of each platform to determine which best suits their needs.

Collaborating with Other Artists and Brands

Another strategy for artists to gain exposure and overcome the challenges facing the NFT market is to collaborate with fellow artists or well-known brands. These collaborations can lead to unique and valuable digital art pieces that attract collectors and media attention. Collaborative efforts can also help artists learn from each other and expand their creative horizons, resulting in innovative and exciting artwork that stands out in the crowded NFT space.

The hype cycle’s shift and high gas fees on the Ethereum network have undoubtedly impacted the NFT market, with artists bearing the brunt of these challenges. By working directly with collectors, considering alternative blockchains like Tezos and Polygon, leveraging AR/VR technologies, and collaborating with other artists or brands, artists and collectors can find ways to navigate these turbulent times. While the future of NFTs remains uncertain, the adaptability and resourcefulness of the art community will undoubtedly play a significant role in determining the path forward.

Icki Artist

Hi, I’m Icki and my work is inspired by reductionist and conceptual themes but subverts the  aesthetics and tropes of both traditions to provide a unique commentary on the world around us.

I Grew up in London and had the pleasure of becoming friends with some exceptional talents  including the late Amy Winehouse. It was through this friendship that I was given the opportunity to  contribute to her albums “Frank” and “Back to Black,” the foundation of my career.

Please tell us about your background

I Grew up in London and had the pleasure of becoming friends with some exceptional talents  including the late Amy Winehouse. It was through this friendship that I was given the opportunity to  contribute to her albums “Frank” and “Back to Black,” the foundation of my career.

I have done many things, over the last two decades, within these industries, operating between  creative, art direction and later the live setting.

I always wanted to be a traditional artist but had to manage my needs. As a digital artist (primarily  3D) there was not much opportunity to take that traditional route. This was why I ended up  following a typically commercial path working with major brands and at one time consulting for art  funds.

Once I had caught wind of what NFTs were and how the token provided a mechanism for  provenance I was sold. I saw this as an opportunity to finally be that ‘artist’ I wanted to be. My initial  motivations were driven by the opportunity to make some money but that all changed very quickly  as I became more engaged in the twitter NFT community.

Asymmetry – The Twin

When did you mint your first NFT?

My first mint was for Cancer Research UK. I had been providing some technical workshops and had  created a small fractal animation with the group labelled Cause and cure’. The event was sponsored  and affiliated with CR_UK and so I thought it would be an interesting idea to try and raise money this  way. We were very happy with the outcome and all in, including direct donations, this $1 NFT  generated over £80k. I think I minted that on Portion.io. I didn’t mint my own work until many  months later.

Can you tell us one thing you cannot live without?

This is a loaded question! Well, my two children obviously but them aside I couldn’t live without my  dearest friends and art collective ‘Bloom’. They are the foundation of constructive feedback; growth  and I respect them all in differing capacities and the experience they bring both as professionals and  friends. My work really wouldn’t be what it is without them. They are also quite fun.

My ‘favourite artist’ list is monolithic! I have always loved art and its history. I’ll try name a few that  have influenced my own work.

The use of space and light in the work of Donald Judd and Dan Flavin has had a significant impact on my  own practice. I am also influenced by conceptual artists like Joseph Kosuth and Lawrence Weiner, who  use text and language as a medium which encouraged me to think more deeply about the meaning and  significance of my own art and I am certainly drawn to the work of those who challenge the status quo

and push the boundaries of what is considered “art.” M.C. Escher’s intricate geometric designs, Ernst  Haeckel’s detailed illustrations of the natural world, and Hiroshi Sugimoto’s minimalist seascapes as  examples. Iam particularly interested in the relationship between perception and the visual arts and find  myself looking to artists like Bridget Riley and Op Art movement. The use of repetition and pattern in the  work of artists like Yayoi Kusama has also had a significant impact on me. I can’t forget Sol LeWitt who  use shapes and forms to create simple, yet powerful work.

Honestly, I could go on for days!

Asymmetry – The Root

Who is your favourite NFT artist?

Another very difficult question! I don’t have a favourite, but I have a number I respect. Trevor Jones  ‘eth boy’ was really one of the reasons I joined the space. He was the first artist I loved that  demonstrated that NFTs were more than just collectibles. I continue to enjoy the work of artists like  Reuben Wu among many others. My fav artists are honestly all in my art collective Bloom. I mean  that sincerely but felt it was a touch biased to state.

What is the one piece of NFT art you wish you had purchased but missed out on?

I have no regrets in terms of art I missed out on, but I have certainly been priced out of a lot of work.  Reuben, Trevor, XCOPY are some of those artists, but the list is increasing by the day!

I would love to own work from all my fellow Bloomie but suspect that this is only a matter of time.  Jenni Pasanen too who recently joined us!

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go? Why this location? What are your  other passions besides art? Why?

I am grateful to have been relatively well travelled. With that said I have often dreamt of traveling  off the beaten track. I look at the explorations of artists like Reuben and dream that one day I can  accompany him on one of those adventures!

Symmetrical Asymmetry – Collectors Edition

Do you make other forms of art and how did you come up with your specific style?

I am not limited to 3D and use other mediums. I am always looking for new creative possibilities. In  the future, I hope to incorporate AI into my process as I continue to train my own models.  Ultimately, my process is always evolving. As for other art do you mean outside the visual arts? I  enjoy music but this is only a private and personal expression.

My current work is the most meaningful. After two decades of creating, I finally found my own  unique voice. It began as a technical study into Symmetry and Asymmetry. As my curiosity grew, I  became aware of its significance.

Like life’s it reflects on how we perceive or compute challenges and the relationship of variables  within them. It’s a fine balance between multiple factors inclusive of form, depth and perception to  name a few.

Question like ‘can we learn more about ourselves, our divisive nature, natural evolution in thought,  cognitive behaviours and more? Can we uncover improved questions around what it means to be  human?’ are what drive it.

Asymmetry and symmetry can feel very different when the relationship of its parts is altered. Its  comparable to how we interpret and respond to challenges in life. It is cognitive.

What is coming in the near future?

Well, I have been thinking a lot about how to reward the wonderful collectors I have. Honestly, I  think as artists we can do a lot more in terms of creating demand. I want to make my work more  accessible to a larger audience and so am very much focussed on innovative ways to make that  happen. 2023 is already shaping up to be a great year with several exhibitions lined up among other  projects. I suspect it will be an interesting one to follow!

Do you have any upcoming drops?

I really don’t like the idea of having no work being available, but I am finding this to be a continued  challenge. One of my priorities in 2022 was to find more efficient ways to work to resolve my issue  of prolific under minting! I have got that covered in 2023 so watch this space!

https://linktr.ee/Icki has the links to market place and I’m working on a new personal website at the  moment. You should be able to find it here soon. My twitter is the best way to reach me.

Football (Called Soccer in America) is the world’s most popular sport.  As we head into the world cup, almost every league in the world is cashing in on the undivided attention. Today one of the most valuable teams in the world, Manchester United, is heading into NFTs, on Tezos. Manchester United is releasing its first ever official NFT collection, with the first drops going to fans for free.

Tezos is a blockchain technology that governs itself by establishing a true digital commonwealth. It facilitates formal verification, a technique which mathematically proves the correctness of the code governing transactions and boosts the security of the most sensitive or financially weighted smart contracts.

The Premier League club says it wants to create an online community where fans can learn, earn rewards, and be united by digital and real-life activities.

Manchester United is one of the most popular and successful clubs in the world. It was founded on November 18, 1878, as Newton Heath LYR Football Club by a group of railway workers from Manchester, England. The team’s original name was changed to Manchester United Football Club in 1902 and they became professional at the start of the 1908 season.

  • The NFT tokens are described as a new form of “digital memorabilia” and an opportunity for fans to “reap rewards” by owning them.
  • These items are based on real training kits from official partners of the football team. They’re available now, and they’ll be sold at a discount during the campaign. A percentage of the profits will go towards supporting the Manchester United Foundation.
  • Supporters who get a free NFT will get an invitation to join the discord server where they can discuss the project and help shape its direction.

Much like the traditional sports memorabilia of old, such as collections of match programs, club cards, and stickers, fans will soon be able to collect digital memorabilia from their favourite clubs.

“We’ve been watching the Web 3.0 world closely and talked to people who are passionate about it. We think that the way that we’re going to offer Manchester United digital collectibles will be different from any other platform available.”

“It’s an honor to be part of the foundation’s first steps into Web 3.0 by creating digital collectibles that the community will cherish for years to com.”

“It takes an understanding of football and the clubs’ history, but also a strong blockchain that’s decentralized, resilient and scalable to create a successful business.”

It seems only a matter of time until a football team with the commercial ambitions and global fanbase that Manchester City possesses gets involved in crypto collectibles. With Phil Lynch referring to the team as a “fast follower”, its managers will have examined the best practice, success and failure of other clubs within the space.

Gatorade announces it will be making its first foray into Web3 and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) by expanding the impact of its Gatorade Player of the Year program and amplifying the Athlete of the Year ceremony taking place on July 19, 2022.

This program came to fruition in collaboration with Vayner3, consultancy under the umbrella of VaynerX exclusively focused on guiding the world’s leading enterprises and intellectual property owners in the next iteration of consumer behavior and navigating the ground-breaking and ever-evolving world of Web3.

The collection will be available as an open edition mint for three days through OneOf.com/Gatorade. The primary and secondary will be donated to charity through Good Sports, a nonprofit that drives equitable access to youth sports and physical activity. In addition, each of the 12 nominees will receive a personalized NFT airdropped into their wallets.

The Gatorade PoY Game Changers collection will consist of the 12 National 2021-2022 Gatorade Players of the Year. Each of these athletes has overcome immense obstacles and adversity to become pillars in their community and achieved tremendous success on the field and in the classroom. From this group of 12, two will be named the Gatorade Male and Female Athlete of the Year!

The 12 Gatorade Players of the Year are:

• Volleyball: Averi Carlson
• Football: Nick Singleton
• Boys Cross Country: Colin Sahlman
• Girls Cross Country: Natalie Cook
• Girls Basketball: Kiki Rice
• Boys Basketball: Gradey Dick
• Softball: Keagan Rothrock
• Baseball: Brock Porter
• Girls Soccer: Riley Jackson
• Boys Soccer: Jacob Murrell
• Girls Track & Field: Juliette Whittaker
• Boys Track & Field: Cade Flatt

All primary sales and 8% of secondary sales (less certain expenses) from the Gatorade Game Changers NFT collection will be going to Good Sports*, a charity dedicated to driving equitable access in youth sports and physical activity, by supporting children in high-need communities to achieve their greatest potential, on the field and in life. Gatorade is beyond excited for this ongoing partnership and the opportunity for the Game Changers NFT collection to directly support youth in need in their pursuit of sports. Click Here to learn more about Good Sports.

The Gatorade Game Changers: Athlete of the Year NFT program is only a first step to leveraging the NFT technology.

  • The NFT program has two pillars:
  1. Gatorade Athlete of the Year NFT Pack: The first is an open edition mint of the NFT collection running for three days on OneOf.com around the AOY & ESPYS events, where the initial NFT card sales will be released as bundle packs of 3 NFTs randomly selected from the national POY athletes. The primary and secondary sales will be donated to charity to Good Sports.
  2. Giving back to Athletes: Each Gatorade National Player of the Year will have NFTs airdropped to their personal wallet:
    1. 10 “Athlete Original” custom edition of their personal card
    2. “Athlete Original” will be designated with a distinct border or sticker marking it as a 1-of-1

Gatorade has a long-standing history of serving athlete communities and understands how sports instill valuable lifelong skills on and off the field. Since the program’s inception in 1985, Gatorade Player of the Year award recipients have won hundreds of professional and college championships, and many have also turned into pillars in their communities, becoming coaches, business owners and educators.

Each year, a selection committee evaluates the nation’s top talent to choose one state winner from each of the 50 states as well as Washington D.C., in 12 different sports: football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, baseball, softball, boys and girls soccer, and boys and girls track & field. In all, 608 athletes are honored each year. From the pool of state winners, one national winner is selected in each of the 12 sports.

The Gatorade Player of the Year award is the most prestigious award in high school sports because it recognizes the nation’s most elite high school athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field. Gatorade State & National Player of the Year award winners are evaluated and selected on the basis of Athletic Excellence, Academic Achievement and Exemplary Character. Previous winners include a distinguished list of athletes, such as Peyton Manning, Abby Wambach, Jayson Tatum, Elena Delle Donne and many other sports icons.

The proof-of-work vs. proof-of-stake aspect of blockchain is front and center.  Alternatives to Ethereum have been gaining popularity.  With the sudden shut down of Hicetnunc.xyz many collectors worried about the future state of Tezos based NFTs.  Quickly alternatives started popping up, but today Rarible announced that they will integrate with the Tezos blockchain allowing collectors a new path forward for Tezos NFTs.

By integrating proof-of-stake blockchains that consume significantly less energy than Ethereum, we can build a sustainable future of digital ownership for everyone.

Tezos is the product of many organizations across the globe working together on an open-source project. Don’t see the perfect role for you but want to work on Tezos? Reach out to the Work on Tezos mailbox – include your resume, what you’re looking for, and why you’re excited to work on Tezos. Resumes are shared with a number of organizations in the Tezos ecosystem.

HEN is currently down. You can still buy Tezos NFTs on a new website inspired by the original HEN here or you can go to objkt.com.

What is the hic et nunc (HEN) NFT Marketplace?

This post is the HEN overview and buyers guide.  We will publish a HEN Creators Guide in the near Future.

Possibly the greatest and most fun surprise over the last 90 days of NFT growth is the Tezos based NFT platform hic et nunc (Commonly referred to on Social media and disord platforms as HEN NFT platform).

hic et nunc is latin for for “Here and now” and is described as the imperiative motto for satisfaction of desire: “I need it, Here and Now.”

One of the things that makes HEN so exciting is that it’s an incredibly accessible marketplace for many NFT collectors.  Much of the art is priced at very affordable prices with consistent gas fees. Additionally, it’s very easy for anyone familiar with blockchain technologies and wallets to mint their art. Over the last 90 days, Tezos or XTZ has fluctuated between $2.40 and $7.20 USD. while that variance seems like a lot, the fact that it’s cheap to mint (between $.09 and $.15) and to use the network means that collectors are more comfortable spending crypto currency on the platform.

HEN Giveaways

Additionally, many artists are minting anywhere from 100 to 500 edition drops on HEN at .01 or even completely free (Besides Gas Fees) allowing collectors to purchase many NFTs to fill their collections vs the much more expensive ETH based alternatives.  What is interesting about HEN is that many collectors are picking up art that looks cool, is inexpensive and would show well on a myriad of NFT displays.  The initial prices have drawn many collectors who just want to find cool diamonds in the rough, but the lately many successful artists across other mediums including Makersplace and more have started putting their art on HEN and finding many collectors for their art.

Is HEN a Gimmick or does it have staying power?

Originally, we were having fun with HEN because it allowed us to feel like 888. We started buying up art left and right because it was so cheap and accessible, but what we found is that the community aspect was incredibly compelling.  Buying on HEN felt like the old days of crypto art.  It lacks, polish but within the raw UX it feels inherently artistic.  It feels yeezy-esque in that if Kanye West were to have made an NFT marketplace, it would have likely looked and felt like HEN.

Is it a Feature or a Bug?

To double click down into the HEN NFT marketplace.  Art takes centerstage. Instead of finding the artist you like and then picking art within their collections, the pieces come to the forefront. To explore HEN is to explore the art.  We love that this removes the curated experience of other marketplaces (and what initially drew so many collectors to NFT platforms like OpenSea and more.)  With HEN the art is what matters, the creator comes second.

That being said, how long will the lack of features and the focus on art stay a primary feature and can the lack of elegant interface and user experience stay endearing?  Will the lack of functionality become a headache for collectors as the marketplace continues to mature.  There are already a number of projects that are trying to organize the HEN NFT marketplace into a more digestible interfaces.  Our favorite right now is objkts.xyz that shows free NFTs as well as recently sold items for collectors to find.

Counterfeit NFTs

One challenge runs rampant on less regulated NFT marketplaces is counterfeit NFTs.  On ETH based marketplaces its usually easier for artists to identify an artist they like and find out if their art is authentic, a counterfeit, or a derivative of original NFT art from the creator.  In the case of HEN, it’s more complex.  Since most art is incredibly inexpensive, it probably doesnt matter for collectors.  If you are buying art on the platform for real money, it is important to go back to the artists profile on twitter or social media and check their HEN link. From there you can compare the issuer ID (also their wallet address) to confirm that the HEN NFT they’ve published is from the same issuer and therefore authentic.

Buying NFTs on HEN

The first thing you need to buy NFT art on HEN is Tezos.  Right now, Tezos is the #34 Ranked Altcoin on most marketplaces.  It’s growing and becoming popular due to its accessibility, relative impact on the environment, and accessibility via HEN and other growing marketplaces.  We will watch this currency closely to see how it grows over time and see if it can break through into the top 20 or 25.

For this example, first you need to buy Tezos (available on Coinbase).  If you are familiar with ETH based wallets, Tezos follows a very similar pattern.  Instead of using Metamask, you can down a browser based wallet called Temple. Temple is a Cryptocurrency wallet for Tezos blockchain and essentially mimicks the functionally you’d find in a metamask wallet.  You will have to create a seedphrase (for wallet recovery) and a password.  From there you will initiate a transfer from your coinbase (or other marketplace) to your wallet.

Once you’ve transferred funds into your account, all you need to do is connect your wallet to the HEN marketplace and you’re ready to start collecting!

  1. visit hicetnunc.xyz on the tip right of the website you’ll see an option to connect your wallet
  2. a Confirmation Connection will pop up for you. Press Connect
  3. Start browsing for art. Within HEN they are described as OBJKTs
  4. Click on an objkt you want to collect
  5. On the right hand side you’ll see “collect for XX tez)
  6. Click that link to pop up Temple tezos wallet
  7. Select if you want to increase your gas or storage price (to increase likelihood of successful transaction and usually $.01 more expensive)
  8. Click confirm
  9. Wait for Objkt to appear

You can then decide if you want to put the art up for sale or collect forever.

HEN final thoughts

We hope this HEN overview was useful.  We’re having a ton of fun collecting various artists.  What do you think we’d love to learn more from the awesome community!
