 Understanding Curated NFTs

Curated Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) represent a fascinating evolution in the digital art world. Unlike traditional NFTs, which can be created and listed by anyone, curated NFTs are selectively chosen and showcased by experts or influential figures in the art and blockchain communities. This process mirrors the art curation in physical galleries, where expert curators select works based on quality, uniqueness, and artistic merit, offering a refined collection to art enthusiasts and collectors.

Art Curation in Galleries: A Historical Perspective

Before the digital era, art curation in galleries played a crucial role in the art world. Galleries acted as gatekeepers of quality and taste, with curators meticulously selecting works that represented artistic innovation, cultural relevance, or outstanding craftsmanship. This process not only helped maintain high standards in the art scene but also guided collectors and art lovers in their journey through an often overwhelming array of choices.

The Challenge of Curation in NFT Marketplaces

In the burgeoning world of NFTs, many marketplaces have yet to fully embrace the concept of curation. One reason is the inherent nature of blockchain and NFTs, promoting decentralization and democratization of art. While this opens doors for many artists, it also leads to an oversaturated market, making it challenging for collectors to find truly exceptional pieces.

Another issue lies in the business model of NFT platforms. Many marketplaces take a significant percentage from sales, yet they don’t always provide the level of support or curation found in traditional galleries. This disconnect raises questions about the value added by these platforms and their commitment to nurturing the digital art ecosystem.

Charting a Path Forward: Enhancing Curation in NFT Spaces

To bridge this gap, several approaches can be adopted:

  1. Incorporating Expert Curators: NFT platforms can engage art experts to curate collections, providing a more refined and high-quality selection of artworks.
  2. Community-Driven Curation: Leveraging the collective wisdom of the community to highlight exceptional works can democratize the curation process while maintaining quality.
  3. Hybrid Models: Combining algorithmic curation with human expertise can cater to diverse tastes while ensuring a standard of quality.
  4. Better Revenue Sharing Models: If marketplaces are taking significant cuts, they should justify this by providing value-added services like marketing support, authenticity verification, and curatorial guidance.

TL;DR: Curated NFTs bring the expertise and selectiveness of traditional art curation into the digital realm. While many NFT marketplaces currently lack robust curation, adopting strategies like expert and community-driven curation, hybrid models, and fairer revenue sharing can enhance the quality and value of offerings in these digital platforms.

In 2024, the focus on sustainability within the NFT space will reach new heights. With a growing global emphasis on environmental responsibility, artists and platforms are expected to adopt more energy-efficient blockchain technologies and align their projects with environmental causes. This shift not only aims to reduce the carbon footprint of NFTs but also reflects a deeper commitment to eco-consciousness in the digital art sphere.

IV. Social Impact and Unity Through Art

Looking ahead, NFT art is set to become a more powerful vehicle for social change and community engagement. Artists will increasingly leverage their platforms to highlight global issues and donate a portion of their proceeds to charitable causes. In a recent Twitter thread, fxhash (@fx_hash_) unveiled their exciting plans for fxhash 2.0, a platform expansion that aims to integrate Ethereum and on-chain minting. This major development opens up new possibilities for artists and collectors, offering the freedom to choose between Tezos and Ethereum chains. Let’s delve into the details of fxhash 2.0 and explore the potential it holds for the generative art community.

The Home of Generative Art

With the arrival of fxhash 2.0, artists will enjoy the power to decide which chain, Tezos or Ethereum, best suits their needs at any given moment. The platform aims to empower users with the flexibility to mint and showcase their generative art on the chain of their choice, fostering a diverse and vibrant artistic ecosystem.

An important aspect of fxhash’s philosophy is an open and inclusive platform. Upon the launch of fxhash 2.0, minting and collecting on both Tezos and Ethereum, including on-chain capabilities, will be readily accessible to all users without any limitations or barriers. This commitment to openness ensures that artists can fully embrace the potential of multichain art creation.

Two Chains, United

fxhash 2.0 presents a redesigned platform that prioritizes a seamless experience across different chains. Artists will encounter a familiar minting flow but with additional options, such as choosing the desired chain for minting and code-storage preferences. By harmonizing the user experience, fxhash aims to create an environment where artists can focus on their creativity without worrying about the technicalities.

All the Tools You Need

Building upon the groundbreaking features of its Tezos integration, fxhash 2.0 ensures compatibility with Ethereum, providing a consistent experience across both chains. Artists will benefit from features like fx(params) and redeemables, as well as integration tools for technology partners and events. This integration of tools across multiple chains enhances the overall fxhash experience.

Elevating Generative Art

fxhash celebrates the art itself, regardless of the chain it originates from. Artworks minted on fxhash will be displayed side by side, encouraging an appreciation for the unique creations artists produce when given complete artistic freedom. By focusing on the art rather than the underlying blockchain, fxhash aims to create a cohesive community centered around creativity and expression.

With fxhash 2.0, artists can seamlessly mint their creations on Tezos, Ethereum, and back again, all within the fxhash platform. This provides artists with exposure to different audiences while utilizing the same set of tools. The ability to explore multiple chains will undoubtedly unlock new possibilities and expand the reach of artists’ work.

Layer One Ethereum

fxhash has chosen to integrate with Layer One (L1) Ethereum, leveraging its robust and rich tooling ecosystem. By utilizing L1 Ethereum, fxhash ensures a reliable deployment environment and takes advantage of the features that have made Ethereum a favorite among artists and collectors.

The integration of Ethereum into fxhash is a direct response to the community’s requests for expanded tooling access across various blockchains. fxhash values the feedback from its users and strives to make important decisions based on their input. Acting as a bridge and unifying force between chains, fxhash aims to foster a cohesive and supportive community for generative artists.

What’s Next

fxhash 2.0 is expected to be released in Fall/Winter 2023. The team behind fxhash will keep the community updated on their progress, marking significant milestones along the way. In addition, they plan to announce a special series of online and in-person events to celebrate the launch of fxhash

Four Tips to building your name in the NFT community (and selling your #NFTart)

Beeple made waves in late 2020 when he became an overnight success.  At the time he broke NFT records passing $3.5million on the exclusive platform Nifty Gateway.  The thing many people don’t know is that it took a long time for Beeple (real name Mike Winkelmann) to become an overnight success.

Beeple has spent over 5,000 days creating “Everydays.”  These pieces of are have been posted on his social media for many years.  The art community has been following him for years. In fact, he has nearly 2 million followers on instagram alone.  The point is, it took a ton of passion, dedication, artistry, and maybe just a little bit of luck for Beeple to get where he is.  (This article wont even cover the fact that he’s also worked with icons like Louis Vuitton, Nike, and others.)

It starts with the NFT community

Art is all about the community. It’s about making something beautiful for the sake of making something beautiful. Artists need to support eachother on social media, NFT platforms, and discord. Social media can be a great way to connect with other artists who share the same interests as you, and sometimes people just want to talk about art in real time.

Participate in the NFT art community. It’s important that you support the artists that are around you, and that you actively participate in the community by searching for artists to follow and by commenting on their work. When you’re building a community around your art and brand, it’s crucial to comment on the artist feeds of other people. Artists are looking for interaction and they’ll engage with you if you interact with them first.

Don’t copy or steal

There are a lot of great artists out there who you should be looking to learn from and learn from their work. It’s important to never steal work or ideas from others, because it will only end in disaster.  Granted there are a lot of topics that are trendy in the NFT community (Skulls, NEON, Cyberpunk, Erotic images).  There are also common tropes around landscapes, trading cards, and others. Some overlap is inevitable, but try to do something unique. Use your individual style to create a new interpretation and create something beautiful.

Create Badass Work, and only share your best NFTs.

Never underestimate the power of a good image. Images are one of the most powerful ways to get people’s attention and they can help you stand out from your competitors.  If you mail in your art creation it will show. If you put a lot of time and effort into an artwork, do yourself a favour and make sure you have the best quality print available.

The best way to improve your work is to practice and get better at it. The only way you can get better is to spend time practicing, and the only way you’re going to practice is if you have something to work towards.

Don’t be afraid to take risks.  Someone who is in the artistic community said, “If you mail your art creation it will show.”

When you’re creating a piece of art, it’s important to add the extra polish to it. In other words, don’t try to rush your final piece.

When you’re developing your brand, get rid of all the bad work. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter about the quality of your work if you don’t want to put it out there. If you want to create an NFTart, you should think about the time it will take to create it. It’s important to always keep quality in mind when you’re creating art, whether it’s for the public or your personal collection.

Stick with it. Make engaging in the NFT community a habit

Nothing is going to happen overnight, you’re going to have ups and downs but stick with it. You can’t build social proof over night. The most important thing to understand about being an artist is that you’re not the only one who feels this way. You can find similar artists by joining communities online and then commenting on other artists’ work. It’s important to create a schedule for blogging and make sure you get at least 20 minutes to an hour every day on engaging with others.

When you’re focusing “in the business” (creating your art) you aren’t focusing “on the business”  you need to spend time promoting yourself, learning from others, helping other artists, and being an ambassador for our amazing community.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, it’s about having a community, whether that’s a hobby or job. Art is about sharing with others and creating something from nothing. Social media is a great way to build your brand, as well as connect with other artists.
