Disclosure: Mal of NFTCulture minted and is a participant in The Seeker Project.

In the digital art sphere, The Seeker is more than just an art collection. It epitomizes the spirit of innovation and pioneering that has become synonymous with artists exploring the limitless boundaries of the NFT space. Emerging from the groundbreaking ‘Collectors Choice’ contract by Transient Labs, The Seeker invites a profound interaction between the art and its collector, offering an evolving canvas of archetypes and thematic explorations.

Find the Seeker on OpenSea.

Trailblazing with ‘Collectors Choice’

The ‘Collectors Choice’ contract is a marvel in itself, allowing the NFT holder to not only possess but also switch between various prototype-archetypes at will. As if this wasn’t revolutionary enough, the contract has been designed to be dynamic, with new pieces added even after the minting process. This brings a new meaning to the term “living art,” where your collection evolves over time, keeping you perpetually engaged.

Whether you resonate with the emotional depth of The Lover, the insightful wisdom of The Seer, or the anonymity of ANON, The Seeker offers an archetype for everyone. These are not mere digital images but symbols of the multi-faceted identities that exist in the crypto community. You could be The Burner, sending work into the eternal flames, or Diamond Hands, hodling your assets for the long term. The choice is yours, and it is as fluid as the blockchain itself.

The Philosophical Underpinning

The Seeker echoes the thoughts of thinkers like Olga Shpilko, who spoke about the human visual apparatus evolving over the centuries. The Seeker’s art collection challenges us to look at the world as an integrated whole, breaking down the divide between the focused perspectives of the past and the holistic vision of the future.

The Artist’s Journey: From Cyberpunk to Postmodernism

The artist’s own journey is a testament to the ever-changing nature of digital culture. Growing up in the age of Commodore64 and Amiga BBS, the artist saw the internet evolve from a chaotic frontier into a rich ecosystem of creativity. This journey is reflected in the art, capturing elements from ASCII art, Ancient Greek mythology, and cyberpunk culture, culminating in a postmodernist masterpiece.

The Seeker goes beyond traditional collage methods, employing what the artist calls ‘hypercollage’. This approach involves the intricate layering of diverse multimedia elements—from 3D modeling and scans from old books to retouching and digital repainting. The final result is not just a collage but a living, breathing entity that is as dynamic as the blockchain it lives on.

The Final Output: A Living Canvas

The art pieces are animated in a minimalist style inspired by 80s/90s video games, capturing each frame on rare analogue Trinitron CRT monitors. This process imparts a unique spectral quality to the art, making each piece a shimmering, dynamic entity that feels almost alive.

The collection contains a cryptic element: The Medusa. This enigmatic figure serves as a warning, a reminder of the ever-changing, unpredictable nature of the digital art landscape. It adds a layer of mystique to the collection, keeping collectors on their toes.

TL;DR

The Seeker is a groundbreaking NFT art collection that employs the innovative ‘Collectors Choice’ contract to offer a dynamic, living canvas to collectors. It invites viewers to explore various archetypes and philosophies, all while pushing the boundaries of what digital art can be. With its unique technique of ‘hypercollage’ and dynamic animations, The Seeker is a pioneer in the NFT space, embodying the limitless possibilities of blockchain technology.

In the ever-evolving landscape of NFT art, artists continuously push the boundaries of creativity and technology. Whether it’s curating remarkable art or employing avant-garde techniques, these artists are shaping the future of digital artistry. In this feature, we focus on five artists whose contributions in the NFT space are nothing short of revolutionary.

Michelle Thompson: A Collage of Memory and Culture

Twitter: @mich_tom
SuperRare Profile: mich_tom

Michelle Thompson graduated with top honors from the Norwich School of Art, later earning a Master’s Degree from The Royal College of Art. Her career in illustration and design has been illustrious, boasting an impressive client list that includes Apple, Sky, and Marvel. Thompson’s unique blend of traditional and digital art techniques creates compositions that evoke shared memories and popular culture.

In the early days, Michelle would fax pencil sketches to her clients and deliver hand-made collage pieces just minutes before deadlines. Fast forward to today, and she’s fully embraced the digital revolution. She now scans her collage materials and incorporates them into her pieces using Photoshop, communicating with her clients entirely through email.

Our Thoughts: Michelle Thompson isn’t just another artist in the NFT space; she’s a beacon of innovation, blending curation and art creation in a way that enriches the ecosystem.

Aidan: Capturing Moments, Creating Memories

Twitter: @aiidancamp

Aidan is no ordinary photographer. He’s a visual storyteller who roams the globe, capturing snapshots that speak volumes. Whether it’s the timeless beauty of landscapes in “3to2 ORIGINALS,” the vibrant life in “CAPTURES OF COSTA,” or the emotive “FACES OF RWANDA,” each collection offers a unique narrative lens. Aidan’s commitment to capturing the essence of the moment elevates his art form from mere photography to a tapestry of experiences and memories.

Our Thoughts: Aidan has mastered the art of freezing time within his frames, imbuing everyday scenes with an ethereal quality that beckons a second look. His exceptional sense of composition and grading transcends the standard and enters the realm of the extraordinary, making him a must-follow artist in the NFT world.

MAX: The Art of Detail

Twitter: @Maxcreatee
Foundation Profile: maxcreatee

MAX arrived on the NFT scene in July 2022, but his impact has been immediate and profound. His artistic style diverges from the more common landscape-centric works, focusing instead on the intricate details of everyday objects. The way he captures the texture of rust on metal, the reflection of light on glass, or even the minute intricacies of a leaf speaks volumes about his attention to detail. This sets him apart and has made his art a treasure trove for discerning collectors.

Our Thoughts: What MAX brings to the table is an extraordinary level of detail that encourages viewers to slow down and appreciate the beauty in the mundane. In a world rushing towards bigger and bolder, MAX reminds us of the profound impact of the small and subtle.

Hannes Windrath: Provocative Elegance

Twitter: @HANNESWINDRATH

Based in Frankfurt, Hannes Windrath is a photographer and videographer with a distinctive style that merges the provocative with the elegant. His vast body of work spans from fashion and corporate photography to intimate portraits, each characterized by meticulous composition, clear lines, and stellar aesthetics. His portfolio isn’t just a collection of photographs; it’s a curated experience that positions him as a highly sought-after artist in advertising and fashion circles.

Our Thoughts: Hannes Windrath is a maverick who has elevated the very concept of photography. His talent for capturing the essence of his subjects, whether it’s in the commercial or personal realm, makes him a standout in both the traditional photography world and the burgeoning NFT space.

Gogolitus: More Than Just Pixels

Twitter: @gogolitus

Though Gogolitus labels themselves as a pixel artist, this description scarcely does justice to the depth and complexity of their work. Each piece utilizes a vivid palette set against dark canvases, invoking a sense of nostalgia and wonder. Their art brings us back to simpler times—playing text-based RPGs on Bulletin Board Systems or exploring digital worlds on the Commodore 64—while providing fresh narratives that resonate with modern audiences.

Our Thoughts: Gogolitus is not merely a pixel artist; they are a narrative weaver, a storyteller who utilizes the limitations of pixel art to push creative boundaries. This makes their work not just visually arresting but emotionally compelling as well.

TL;DR

We’ve spotlighted five groundbreaking artists who are redefining the NFT landscape through their innovative approaches and artistic prowess. From Michelle Thompson’s collage art to Gogolitus’s pixel masterpieces, these artists are ones to watch.

The “For Emmie” NFT Mint Raises Funds for Sperandeo’s Long Road to Recovery

When tragedy strikes, it often brings out the best in humanity as we band together to help those in need. In the world of art and photography, this spirit of solidarity is no different. One such poignant example comes from leading Web3 Western artist Jeremy Booth, who has set out to help a fellow artist, Emmie Sperandeo, who recently endured a tragic accident.

Emmie Sperandeo, a dedicated servant of the West, has devoted her life to documenting and telling stories through her vibrant depictions of the West. She is more than just a photographer; she is a gifted storyteller and an essential part of the community. However, Emmie’s world came to a standstill when she fell from her horse while moving cattle and suffered a severe accident, fracturing her skull in two places. The incident has left her with physical injuries and significant memory loss, with a long road of recovery ahead.

In the wake of this tragedy, Jeremy Booth, an esteemed artist in the Web3 space, took it upon himself to launch a fundraising initiative to support Emmie’s road to recovery. Titled “For Emmie,” Booth will be facilitating, with the permission of Emmie’s family, a week-long edition to raise funds.

This initiative aims to harness the unique capabilities of the Web3 space to raise awareness and financial support for Emmie. Booth has long been an admirer of Emmie’s work, with a couple of her photographs even adorning the walls of his home. Learning about her accident moved him deeply, and he felt a strong impulse to help her in her time of need.

The “For Emmie” edition is available for .011 ETH $25.95 and will be live for a week, starting on Tuesday, May 30, at 10:00 am EST. All proceeds from the edition will go directly to supporting Emmie’s recovery. For those unable to afford the mint, but still wanting to contribute, a GoFundMe page has been set up to receive donations.

The tragedy that Emmie has experienced has significantly impacted her life, but the support of the Web3 community and fellow artists like Booth shines a light during these dark times. With the combined efforts of the community, we hope that Emmie will be able to navigate her road to recovery a little more smoothly.

Let’s stand together with Emmie Sperandeo and extend our support, honoring the life and work of this remarkable woman. Whether through the purchase of the “For Emmie” edition or by donating to her GoFundMe, every contribution matters. Together, we can show that in the face of adversity, the Web3 community is capable of profound acts of compassion and solidarity.

Friends,

I am tired. Very very tired. This last 3 years has been a nonstop up and down of pride and joy, heartbreak and failure, happy tears and sad tears, a myriad of successes and two catastrophic failures that make my heart wrench just thinking about them.  From failed attempts to onboard team members to interviewing some of the worlds most amazing and incredible talents, the pendulum swings quickly… and as I reflect, I realize that the success is shared but the failures are mainly of my own accord.  A lot of you know that I work on this project with every moment of spare time I have.  I still have a very important day job that I need to maintain to support my young growing family. I do this all for my kids.  During WAGMI szn, it’s easy to let the adrenaline push through the fatigue. The reality is that, at some point, we all need to step away and take a break and come June, I will be away for a while.  I am still looking for help especially on the media and news side.  In the interim, I’ve been feeling nostalgic. I’m addicted to movie cliches and quotes and the given state of the market has me self-reflecting on many of the flaws of our current state.  I present to you a manifesto inspired by Camerons Crowes manifesto in Jerry Maquire:

The Tokens We Hold and Do Not Share: A New Vision for Our Digital Space

As I sit here, surrounded by the soft glow of a thousand screens, I’m confronted by an undeniable, somewhat melancholic truth: The NFT space is failing us. Not in its technology, nor in its novelty, but in the very core of what it was supposed to represent – a sense of community, the democratization of art, and the shared joy of discovery. Instead, it has been increasingly drowned by a relentless wave of monetary pursuits, leaving behind the warmth of relationships in the cold rush of profits.

We trade and trade, we buy and sell, our eyes on the price, our fingers on the pulse of the market. In our frenzy, have we not lost the essence of the value that brought us together in this digital frontier? The community, the friendships, the shared thrill of supporting creators and cherishing their creations?

In our relentless pursuit of profit, the focus has shifted from the soul of the artwork to its potential for appreciation. The NFT space was meant to be a haven for creatives, a sanctuary where art could thrive, unfettered by the constraints of traditional systems. Yet, we’ve reduced it to a high-speed chase of who can get the rarest, the most valuable, the most profitable token.

Remember, my friends, the blockchain was not meant to chain us to the crude metrics of material gain. It was designed to free us, to grant us access to a brave new world where every token, every pixel, every byte pulsated with a unique story, a personal connection.

Let’s not forget why we stepped into this world of NFTs. Not to lose ourselves in the frantic search for the next big thing, but to find in this digital space a canvas for creativity, a platform for artists, a community that shares, appreciates, and grows together.

“We’ve become collectors of profits, not patrons of art. We’ve become dealers in a marketplace, not members of a community.”

As we move forward, let’s shift our gaze from the glowing price ticker to the radiant artwork, from the rising graphs to the ascending creativity. We need to return to the essence, to what attracted us to this incredible technology – a sense of belonging, shared experiences, and the simple joy of discovery.

In the end, what’s the value of a token if it doesn’t bring a smile to our face, a thrill to our heart, or a connection with a creator, a fellow collector? Let’s make our collections a mosaic of memories and friendships, not just an array of figures and gains.

Let’s focus less on the profits and more on the people, less on the gains and more on the friendships, less on the business and more on the bonds. It’s time to redefine our values, reshape our vision, and revive the community spirit in the NFT space.

It’s time to truly collect. It’s time to truly connect. It’s time to restore the heart and soul to our digital world. And in doing so, perhaps, we will find that the true value of our tokens lies not in their market price, but in the friendships we forge, the artists we support, and the communities we build.

“After all, isn’t the richest collection the one that echoes with the most laughter, resonates with the most stories, and reverberates with the most heartbeats?”

That is the future of our digital space. That is the future we should strive for.

Renowned artist Anthony James is breaking new ground with his highly anticipated NFT collection, “Anthony James – Platonic Solids,” created in collaboration with the Gallery of Digital Assets (GODA). With a quarter-century of artistic experience and a passion for blending multimedia elements, James is venturing into the realm of non-fungible tokens to expand the possibilities of his studio practice. This blog post explores the profound artistic exploration, the gamified nature of the collection, and the unique opportunities it presents for collectors.

“I’ve been approached many times to do an NFT and I’ve always said no until I met GODA,” says Anthony James. “We’re doing this for art’s sake and it’s an extension of my studio practice.” – Anthony James

The Fusion of Art and NFTs: Anthony James, known for his highly technical and mesmerizing sculptures, shares his journey into the world of NFTs. In his own words, James explains, “I’ve been approached many times to do an NFT and I’ve always said no until I met GODA. We’re doing this for art’s sake, and it’s an extension of my studio practice.” With his expertise in algorithmic lighting, two-way mirrors, and sacred geometries, James creates three-dimensional objects that give physical form to unity consciousness and the mysteries of the universe.

Exploring the Sacred Geometries

The “Anthony James – Platonic Solids” collection delves into the five sacred geometries known as the Platonic solids: tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, icosahedron, and dodecahedron. Each shape represents a specific elemental power, such as fire, earth, wind, water, and the void. James and his studio animate these iconic Platonic Solid sculptural forms, bringing them to life in mesmerizing ways. From electrified icosahedrons floating above fiery seascapes to steel-framed cubes illuminated by gradient LEDs against a serene desert backdrop, the animations create an immersive and visually captivating experience.

The Gamified NFT Experience

Taking the NFT experience a step further, James introduces a gamified aspect to the collection. Collectors have the option to “burn” their Tier 1 NFTs, essentially deleting the tokens from existence. By doing so, they have the chance to acquire rarer forms with additional animations set in emotionally evocative environments. This concept draws inspiration from James’s monumental 2008 sculpture, ΚΘ, where he transformed a Ferrari into a charred carcass, creating a new form of artwork. The bravest collectors who burn all five Tier 1 tokens can unlock the rarest form in the game: the Great Stellated Dodecahedron, also known as Metatron’s Cube.

Unlocking the Great Stellated Dodecahedron

The Great Stellated Dodecahedron represents the pinnacle of James’s game. This complex and fascinating shape is created by combining all five Platonic solids. The collectors who successfully merge these forms have the opportunity to unlock this rare and highly sought-after NFT. James emphasizes that creating the Great Stellated Dodecahedron requires skill, chance, and good instincts. It’s a testament to taking risks, much like his Ferrari piece, and someone will inevitably be rewarded with this extraordinary achievement.

The launch of “Anthony James – Platonic Solids” in collaboration with GODA signifies a pivotal moment in Anthony James’ artistic journey. Through the innovative medium of NFTs, James pushes the boundaries of his craft, introducing interactivity and dynamism to his iconic platonic solids. This collection offers a unique opportunity for collectors and art enthusiasts to engage with James’ work and witness the intersection of traditional art and the digital realm. As NFTs continue to reshape the art world, Anthony James’ foray into this space sets the stage for a new era of artistic exploration.

Miami-born artist Jason Seife will showcase his first solo exhibition in the United States at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) on May 18, 2023. The exhibition, entitled “Coming to Fruition,” features all-new site-specific works, including a custom wallpaper, triptychs, and a large-scale canvas.

Seife’s work centers around his Middle Eastern heritage, referencing Persian carpets and the intricate details found in mosques and traditional Islamic art. He digitally designs his carpet-inspired compositions, mirroring weavers’ practices of associating patterns or colors with specific locations and communities. Seife then hand-paints these intricate patterns onto a concrete slab or canvas.

For my upcoming exhibition ”Coming To Fruition” i will be showing artworks in different stages of my creative process, including two concrete triptychs where the painting is shown throughout three different stages of completion. Highlighting the under drawing and process of an artwork coming into fruition. From idea to execution.

For “Coming to Fruition,” Seife will present his elaborate process amid the action, blurring the boundary between artistic process and finished product. The exhibition will feature two triptychs that reveal the progression of his paintings, from initial stages and minimal paint on the concrete to intricately painted finished products. Accompanied by an additional finished painting on canvas, the triptychs are surrounded by labyrinthine wood frames that appear to seep out of the paintings and onto the walls, as if taking over the gallery’s interior.

The site-specificity of “Coming to Fruition” allows Seife to present a secular sanctuary, wherein visitors can meditate on human desecration, community-building, and complicated identities. The exhibition is organized by PAMM Assistant Curator Maritza Lacayo, and ongoing support for PAMM’s project galleries from the Knight Foundation is gratefully acknowledged.

Seife has presented solo exhibitions in Dubai, Rome, London, Brussels, and Newcastle, among others. His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions worldwide, and his pieces can be found in numerous public and private collections. He is well-known for his work in graphic design, having worked with some of the biggest names in the music business, including Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, and Nicki Minaj.

The “Coming to Fruition” exhibition will open with an evening celebration on May 18, 2023. Artist Jason Seife and exhibition curator Maritza Lacayo will be present to discuss and share the works and the artist’s process throughout the evening. Admission to the galleries is $16 for adults and free for PAMM members.

Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), led by Director Franklin Sirmans, promotes artistic expression and the exchange of ideas, advancing public knowledge and appreciation of art, architecture, and design. The nearly 40-year-old South Florida institution opened a new building, designed by world-renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron, on December 4, 2013, in Downtown Miami’s Maurice A. Ferré Park.

The Crypt Gallery, currently located at Dream Hollywood in Los Angeles and Dream Downtown in New York City, is the world’s first NFT gallery in the hospitality industry. Open 24/7, the gallery allows guests to experience digital art in an entirely new way. The goal of Crypt Gallery is to create interactive and memorable in-person events and experiences while educating and onboarding a new audience by bridging the gap between digital and physical realms. Referred to as “The People’s Gallery,” Crypt Gallery provides a physical home and new levels of exposure for artists, collectors, communities, and the industry as a whole.

The Importance of In-Real-Life Experiences and Mainstream Exposure

In an increasingly digital world, in-real-life (IRL) experiences have become even more essential for creating meaningful connections and driving engagement. As NFTs gain mainstream attention, it’s crucial to bridge the gap between the digital and physical realms, making them accessible and relatable to a wider audience. The Crypt Gallery plays a significant role in achieving this by providing an immersive, physical space where people can experience digital art first-hand. This exposure not only educates newcomers about the world of NFTs but also helps them appreciate the concept of provenance and the inherent value of these digital assets. For rising artists, having their NFTs showcased in The Crypt Gallery can be a game-changer, as it offers unparalleled visibility and credibility, boosting their reputation and amplifying their reach in the competitive NFT market.

The Dynamic Duo: Tommy and Vasia

Tommy Polihronopoylos, known as King of Midtown, is the founder and CEO of The Crypt Gallery. As an early collector in the NFT space, King of Midtown conceptualized bringing NFTs and the digital marketplace to a mainstream, in-real-life (IRL) location, targeting the hospitality industry. King has established himself as a leader, curator, advisor, community builder, and innovator in the NFT space.

Vasia Makris, Co-founder and COO of The Crypt Gallery, has a background in education and was introduced to NFTs by King of Midtown. Quality Above All

The Crypt Gallery has set a new standard for the way NFT art is displayed. Unlike many other galleries, which often showcase art with inaccurate aspect ratios, croppings, cords running everywhere, or on stands, Crypt Gallery ensures that its attendees are fully immersed in the art. When you step into a King of Midtown gallery, you’re not looking at art on a TV monitor; you’re experiencing the art itself.

Unrivaled Curation:

One of the key aspects that set Crypt Gallery apart is its dedication to the artists. Showcasing a diverse range of NFTs, from photography to abstract art and everything in between, Crypt Gallery supports artists from all walks of life. The level of curation at Crypt Gallery is consistent and truly second to none, offering a diverse yet harmonious blend of NFTs.

Trust in the NFT Community

In the world of NFTs, trust is paramount. Crypt Gallery, King of Midtown, and Vasia have earned the trust of artists and collectors alike. Attendees know that when they participate in an event hosted by these champions, it’s for the right reasons – not cash grabs or ulterior motives. This week’s event proved that without the King of Midtown, the true culture of NFTs is incomplete.

NFT NYC 2023 was a monumental event that demonstrated the power of quality, curation, and trust in the NFT space. Crypt Gallery, King of Midtown, and Vasia have proven themselves as the true champions, paving the way for the future of NFT events. With their visionary leadership, commitment to excellence, and dedication to artists and collectors, the NFT community eagerly awaits what these trailblazers have in store for the future.

Violet Jones is a multi-disciplinary artist whose creative journey spans fashion, film, and fine arts. With a degree in linguistics, Violet began her career as a teacher before pursuing her artistic aspirations professionally. Inspired by renowned artists such as Zdzislaw Beksinski, Paula Rego, and Alphonse Mucha, Violet has developed a unique artistic style that focuses on human figures, portraiture, and emotion-evoking compositions. You can see all of her art by heading to her linktree here.

In her latest work, Violet has embraced the world of NFTs and AI, masterfully combining traditional oil painting techniques with cutting-edge artificial intelligence. She uses AI-generated compositions as a starting point and brings them to life on canvas, creating a captivating fusion of traditional and digital art. Violet’s innovative approach has earned her a growing reputation in the NFT art space, and her upcoming projects and collaborations continue to push the boundaries of creativity.

In this interview, we delve into the world of the talented NFT artist Violet, who takes us through her artistic journey, creative process, and the innovative use of artificial intelligence in her work. With a background in fashion, film, and fine arts, Violet’s artistic style is heavily influenced by her diverse experiences and her fascination with the human figure and portraiture.

Violet’s latest collection, “MURAKA Me Myself and AI,” is inspired by Murakami flowers and the vibrant colors of spring in New York. This collection combines AI technology with traditional oil painting techniques, resulting in a unique fusion of the two mediums. She uses the StarryAI app to create compositions that preserve her artistic essence while pushing the boundaries of creativity. You can see her work during NFT NYC 2023 at The Crypt Gallery.

The show aims to inspire viewers and demonstrate the importance of building on the work of past artists while incorporating modern tools. With augmented reality and sound enhancing the sensory experience, Violet’s work creates an interactive and immersive atmosphere for the audience.

I used modern tools to generate unique and interesting combinations of colors, shapes, and textures by reinterpreting my former painting with prompts referring to the style of Murakami flowers and the feeling of the spring season in NYC. – Violet P Jones

Can you tell us a little about your background and how you got interested in art?

I have always been creative, however it was not until my 20s that I decided to explore my artistic side in a more professional manner. My very first art steps were actually in fashion. After I got my degree in linguistics I got a teaching job and could afford to put myself through a fashion school. Further on, my jobs in fashion introduced me to a film world which I fell in love with. I have always painted and sculpted on the side but never explored it seriously. I participated in a few collective shows here and there but never thought I would end up being a fine artist. After I moved to Scotland I started pursuing it. The life in film was not as successful as I wished it to be. I could not live off it and always had to teach to make a living. Hence, when I met my husband I knew it was the right time to focus my energy entirely on painting. I took a few painting and drawing courses at the school he was teaching at and showed in a proper art gallery. Then I decided to attend an atelier of fine arts and become a full time artist. I feel my whole creative journey was very organic and all the steps I took made me the artist I am today.

How would you describe your artistic style and what inspires your work?

I am a painter working predominantly in oil paint. I feel the things that make the artwork mine are in the palette I choose, the stories I tell and the feeling I convey through my art. I am fascinated by the human figure and portraiture. I love cross disciplinary art and I am intrigued by the use of technology in combination with my paintings. I love creating art that evokes emotions and exudes femininity. I am inspired by many artists that came before me. I take the feelings and thoughts I get when looking at their art and reinterpret those into brush strokes in my own way. The artists that have the biggest influence on me are Zdzislaw Beksinski, Paula Rego, Otto Dix, Alphonse Mucha, MC Escher, Georgia O’Keeffe, Barbara Rae, Niki de Saint Phalle and many more.

Can you walk us through your creative process for “MURAKA Me Myself and AI”? How did you incorporate AI technology into the traditional oil painting techniques?

The “MURAKA Me Myself and AI” art show is a collection of six oil paintings, each measuring 24″ by 18″, inspired by Murakami flowers and the vibrant colors of spring in New York.

What sets this art show apart is the innovative use of artificial intelligence in the initial stages of the creative process. I used modern tools to generate unique and interesting combinations of colors, shapes, and textures by reinterpreting my former painting with prompts referring to the style of Murakami flowers and the feeling of the spring season in NYC. This allowed me to experiment with new ideas and explore different possibilities, while still staying true to the overall aesthetic of the artwork.

Once the initial compositions were complete, I used traditional oil painting techniques to bring them to life on canvas, preserving the AI feel in paint. This process involved both controlled and loose brushstrokes, resulting in a series of paintings that are both vibrant and intricate as well as intended and accidental.

I have been creating paintings using AI for composition for some time now. I find it very helpful and inspiring. – Violet P Jones

How did you come up with the concept for the show, exploring the intersection of technology and traditional art techniques?

I was invited to speak at the NYC NFT conference, and at the same time I was in conversation with the Crypt Gallery about doing something with them during that time. I have never been to NYC before, and I thought it would be a creative challenge to create something born out of my feelings about this first visit to the city. Springtime  is always associated with flowers and blossoms, which led me to research Takashi Murakami’s journey. In 1994 he moved to NY, and his contemporary work blossomed and gained international recognition. I thought I would explore his signature style and typical spring blossoming flowers in NY as inspirations for my own work.

I have been creating paintings using AI for composition for some time now. I find it very helpful and inspiring. I use the StarryAI app, where I input a starting image, usually one of my former paintings, and word prompts as well as particular art styles. I set maximum AI interference to 50%, sometimes much less, as I want to preserve a lot of me in that process. I also further change and reinterpret the image created by AI once I start painting. As I mentioned before, it is a creative circle, like an AI (artificial intelligence) and HI (human intelligence) dance on canvas.

lThe concept of the show revolves around the idea of the circle of creative life. I was inspired by the style of Murakami, a well-known contemporary artist, and used modern tools to create my own unique interpretation. This demonstrates the importance of building on the work of those who have come before us, while also using modern tools as a traditional artist.

What message or feeling do you hope viewers will take away from the collection of paintings and NFTs in “MURAKA Me Myself and AI”?

I hope they get inspired. I can only explain what went into the creation of this series but I honestly can’t tell how the paintings or animations will make others feel. I think this is the beautiful thing about art. It makes everybody feel differently and sometimes it’s unexpected or opposite to the initial intention.

Can you explain the augmented reality layer and how it adds an interactive element to the show?

Viewers can use the Artivive App to access the AR layer, which provides animation and allows them to see the NFT associated with each piece. I use AR to extend the viewing experience. Moving images and changing colors, textures and shapes with the music evoke very different emotions in the viewer, compared to looking at the painting alone. Takashi’s 2D graphic-design-like style and his fascination with Warhol led me to create swiftly changing animations, including saturated variations of the paintings for a contemporary feel.

How important is sound to the overall sensory experience of the artwork?

The sounds can transport you to a different place. They often bring additional feelings to the surface. They definitely contribute greatly to the whole experience. I focused on sounds that often accompany Manga films or which are similar to the ones you could hear in a video game. Once again I wanted to explore more contemporary aspects in this series.

What are some of your other passions or hobbies outside of art?

I love UFC/MMA. Just recently my lovely husband treated us to our fist live UFC show in London for our 5th wedding anniversary, and it was the most exhilarating live event I have ever experienced.

What do you see as the future of NFTs in the art world?

I do not know what the future holds, however I have hopes that IRL galleries will take over and NFTs will become a new type of certificate of authenticity. I hope to exhibit more IRL and sell via NFTs.

What’s next for you and your art? Any upcoming projects or collaborations you can share with us?

At the moment I am working with MetaBrewSociety on a project where my artwork will be a wrap/label on their new tasty drink.

In June, Arthouse collective, of which I am a proud member, is planning an IRL residency with BLOOM collective members, where we will create together – digital artists with traditional artists. I am very excited about this venture.

I have something very special for everyone cooking at the NFT Summit in Lisbon, but that will be revealed in May.

And there is a Castle Party 2023 in September, which I am extremely excited about.

Diablo II, released in 2000, stands as a defining experience for a generation of digital natives who grew up during the rapid expansion of the internet and the emergence of blockchain technology. As these kids came of age, their passion for digital collectibles and appreciation for virtual communities converged, resulting in a massive overlap between the passionate Diablo fanbase and advocates for NFTs, Web3, and digital ownership. This unique phenomenon was recently discussed on the popular Twitter Spaces show “Not Financial Advice,” hosted by NFTNOW and NinjAlerts, with special guests Kix and Brycent. The conversation was further enriched by the presence of co-host and BTC maximalist Trevor Owens, who offered valuable insights into the intricate connections between the Diablo II experience and the NFT culture that thrives today.

It’s uncanny how many people I’ve met randomly in web3 who were big into diablo II. it’s likely more significant than just a demographic trend, diablo II impacted a generation of NFT enjoyers.

  1. Virtual Item Trading: The Birth of Digital Collectibles

Diablo II’s in-game economy, centered around the trading of virtual items like unique weapons and armor, laid the groundwork for the modern NFT landscape. Players dedicated countless hours to exploring the game world, searching for rare digital treasures to trade with others through platforms like Battle.net or third-party forums. This early exposure to digital collectibles played a crucial role in shaping players’ understanding of the value and appeal of unique, verifiable virtual assets.

Fast forward to today, NFTs have emerged as a dominant force in the digital art and collectibles space. These digital tokens, built on blockchain technology, encapsulate the unique and verifiable properties that were once exclusive to in-game items. The trading of NFTs echoes the dynamics of Diablo II’s economy, with the advent of blockchain gaming has created opportunities for deeper integration between NFTs and gaming experiences reminiscent of Diablo II. metaverses like The Sandbox, otherside, as well as games like Crypto Raiders and Cyber Stadium that incorporate NFTs as in-game items, assets, and virtual land, rekindling the passion for digital collectibles among the gaming community. This resurgence of interest in virtual item trading brings the Diablo II experience full circle, demonstrating its enduring impact on the digital landscape.

  1. Building Online Communities through Battle.net

Diablo II was among the first games to truly harness the power of the internet for multiplayer gaming, connecting players worldwide through its online platform, Battle.net. This connectivity fostered a sense of digital community and camaraderie that would become essential to the decentralized platforms of Web3, where users can collaborate, trade, and interact on a global scale.

Communities have always been a crucial aspect of the internet, but with the advent of Web3, their importance has increased significantly. In the early days of online gaming, Diablo II was a pioneer in creating a sense of community among players through its online platform, Battle.net. The game’s connectivity allowed players from all over the world to come together and play, creating a sense of camaraderie that transcended geographical boundaries. This sense of community is what made the game so successful and set the stage for the decentralized platforms of Web3.

In Web3, communities are the real utility, as they enable users to collaborate, trade, and interact with each other on a global scale. These communities are based on shared interests, values, and goals, and they can be formed around anything from cryptocurrencies to digital art to social causes. By joining a community, users gain access to a network of like-minded individuals who share their passions and can help them achieve their goals.

One of the most significant advantages of Web3 communities is their decentralized nature. Unlike traditional communities, which are often controlled by a central authority, Web3 communities are owned and governed by their members. This ensures that everyone has an equal say in how the community is run, and decisions are made through consensus rather than by a select few.

  1. Rare Item Hunting: The Thrill of the Chase

The thrill of the hunt and the pursuit of rare items is a common theme in many aspects of life, including video games and the NFT space. In Diablo II, players spent countless hours searching for rare and powerful items to help them progress through the game. This pursuit of rare loot was a driving force for many players and kept them engaged with the game for months or even years.

In a similar vein, the NFT space has created a new frontier for collectors and enthusiasts to pursue rare and unique digital assets. NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are unique digital assets that are verified on a blockchain and cannot be replicated. This makes them highly valuable to collectors who are willing to pay top dollar for one-of-a-kind artworks, limited-edition collectibles, and other rare items.

The passion for the hunt and the desire to acquire rare items in the NFT space is similar to that of Diablo II players searching for rare loot. Collectors in the NFT space often go to great lengths to acquire rare and unique assets, scouring online marketplaces, attending auctions, and building relationships with artists and creators in order to gain access to exclusive drops.

The pursuit of rare items in both Diablo II and the NFT space creates a sense of excitement and anticipation for collectors and players alike. The satisfaction of finally acquiring that rare item after hours or even months of searching is a feeling that is difficult to replicate. This passion for the hunt and the desire to acquire rare items is what drives many people to engage with these spaces and create communities around them.

  1. Character Customization: Crafting Digital Identities

The concept of digital self-expression has carried over to the blockchain and NFT space, where individuals can create and customize their digital identities in a myriad of ways. This includes creating and owning unique digital avatars, which can represent themselves in online communities and platforms.

Some of these digital avatars can even be owned as NFTs, making them unique and valuable assets that can be bought, sold, and traded on various blockchain marketplaces. These NFTs can represent the digital personas of individuals or even fictional characters and creatures, providing a new avenue for self-expression and creativity in the digital realm.

Beyond just avatars, the NFT space has also allowed individuals to express themselves through other unique digital assets, such as art, music, and even virtual real estate. These assets can be customized and personalized, allowing individuals to create and share unique digital experiences with others.

  1. The Power of Digital Scarcity

The game’s randomly generated loot system and varying item quality created a sense of digital scarcity, a fundamental concept behind the value of NFTs. By limiting the availability of certain items, Diablo II taught players to appreciate the rarity and value of their digital possessions, a mindset that has become essential for understanding the appeal of NFTs.

Diablo II was renowned for its randomly generated loot system, which created a sense of unpredictability and excitement for players. This system also created varying levels of item quality, with rare and unique items being extremely difficult to find. This sense of digital scarcity was a fundamental concept behind the value of NFTs.

In Diablo II, players quickly learned to appreciate the rarity and value of their digital possessions. They learned to recognize the value of unique items and how to leverage their rarity to gain an advantage in the game. This mindset of scarcity and value has carried over to the NFT space, where collectors and enthusiasts are willing to pay top dollar for unique and rare digital assets.

The limited availability of certain NFTs creates a sense of scarcity that drives up their value. NFT collectors are always on the lookout for unique and rare assets that they can add to their collections, much like Diablo II players were always on the hunt for rare and powerful items.

The concept of digital scarcity has become essential for understanding the appeal of NFTs. By limiting the availability of certain digital assets and creating a sense of scarcity, NFT creators and collectors have created a new paradigm for the value of digital goods. This value is not derived from the physicality of an object, but rather from its unique digital properties and limited availability.

  1. Fan Art, Mods, and the Emergence of User-Generated Content

The Diablo II community has always been known for its creativity, with players creating an enormous amount of fan art, mods, and custom content. This explosion of user-generated content foreshadowed the rise of the NFT market, where creators can tokenize and sell their digital art and other creative works.

In the early days of Diablo II, players started creating mods that changed the game’s mechanics, graphics, and even storylines. These mods were often shared freely among the community and became a significant part of the game’s culture. Over time, players started creating their own custom content, including fan art, music, and videos, showcasing their creativity and passion for the game.

This culture of user-generated content was a significant factor in the game’s long-term success and foreshadowed the rise of the NFT market. In the NFT space, creators can tokenize and sell their digital art and other creative works, enabling them to monetize their talents in a new and unique way. This has opened up new opportunities for artists, musicians, and other creators, who can now sell their digital creations directly to collectors and enthusiasts.

The NFT market has also created a new paradigm for the value of digital art and creative works. By tokenizing these assets, creators can create unique and limited editions, driving up their value and creating a new market for digital art and other creative works.

  1. Digital Marketplaces: The Evolution of Online Trading

In the early days of Diablo II, players used online forums and websites to connect with each other and trade items. These informal digital marketplaces allowed players to exchange rare and unique items, creating a vibrant economy that was a significant part of the game’s culture. This early iteration of a digital marketplace laid the groundwork for the more sophisticated NFT marketplaces we see today.

The concept of digital marketplaces has evolved significantly since the early days of Diablo II. Today, buyers and sellers can exchange digital assets with ease, using blockchain technology and smart contracts to ensure secure and transparent transactions. These marketplaces have become an essential part of the NFT ecosystem, enabling creators to sell their digital assets directly to collectors and enthusiasts.

The rise of NFT marketplaces has created new opportunities for artists, musicians, and other creators, who can now monetize their digital creations in a way that was not possible before. These marketplaces have also created a new paradigm for the value of digital assets, enabling collectors to acquire unique and rare assets that hold significant value in the digital realm.

The emergence of NFT marketplaces has been driven by the passion and creativity of the community, much like the early Diablo II forums and websites. It is this community-driven spirit that has allowed the NFT market to grow and thrive, creating new opportunities for creators and collectors alike.

  1. Gaming as Social Currency

Diablo II’s popularity and influence on gaming culture helped establish video games as a social currency, a concept that has expanded with the rise of digital collectibles and NFTs. Today, owning a rare NFT or digital asset can bring social status and recognition, much like possessing a sought-after item in Diablo II once did.

Today, owning a rare NFT or digital asset can bring social status and recognition, much like possessing a sought-after item in Diablo II once did. These digital assets have become a new form of social currency, with their rarity and uniqueness driving up their value and desirability among collectors and enthusiasts.

The value of owning a rare NFT or digital asset goes beyond just monetary gain. It can bring social status and recognition, as well as a sense of belonging to a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for digital art and collectibles. This is similar to the sense of community and belonging that Diablo II created, with players forming connections and friendships based on their shared experiences in the game.

The rise of digital collectibles and NFTs has also created new opportunities for creators, who can now monetize their digital art and other creative works. This has opened up new avenues for expression and creativity in the digital realm, further establishing digital assets as a form of social currency.

  1. Game Streaming and Content Creation

Diablo II was released before the rise of streaming, but its impact on the gaming industry can still be felt today. The game inspired countless players to share their experiences through other mediums, such as YouTube videos, written guides, and forums, which laid the foundation for the burgeoning content creation industry we see today.

As content creators and influencers became increasingly important in the Web3 era, their influence has helped shape the NFT landscape, promoting digital collectibles, art, and other NFT-based projects. Content creators and influencers have played a significant role in the growth of the NFT market, using their platforms to introduce new artists and projects to their audiences.

The impact of Diablo II on content creation and its indirect influence on the NFT space demonstrates the lasting impact of the game on gaming culture. The game’s emphasis on community and social interaction created a framework for sharing experiences and creating content that has only grown in importance with the rise of the internet and Web3.

  1. Nostalgia and Remasters: The Resurgence of Retro

The enduring popularity of Diablo II led to the release of Diablo II: Resurrected in 2021, which sparked renewed interest in the game and its collectible aspects. This nostalgia-driven resurgence mirrors the increasing demand for retro and nostalgic digital art and collectibles in the NFT space. As nostalgia plays a significant role in determining the value and desirability of certain NFTs, the revival of classic games like Diablo II has only served to further cement the connection between gaming and digital collectibles.

Diablo II played a pivotal role in shaping a generation of digital natives who have come to appreciate the value of digital collectibles, community building, and self-expression in the online world. The game’s impact can be seen in the rise of NFT culture, where the principles of digital scarcity, collectibility, and virtual trading are now more relevant than ever. As the worlds of gaming and digital collectibles continue to intersect, it’s clear that the legacy of Diablo II will live on, both as a seminal gaming experience and as a precursor to the NFT revolution.
